Scoreboard

New Scoreboard Concept

About the project

Rainbow Six Siege is one of my favorite games but I have a problem with it as with many shooters (team based - PvP) -> the scoreboard during a match.

Part of the RS6 community is very intense when playing and can be a bit toxic, your own team is very punishing if you make a mistake (mainly at lower ranks). This does not match with the purpose of the game, which would be to work as a team to win the round and eventually the game, and not focus on who is in first place with the most kills or points.

Challenges & Goals

  • Prioritize teamwork to mitigate toxicity between players (mainly on the same team)

  • Create a scoreboard that is easy to understand

  • Practice my design skills to follow the current visual style of rainbow six siege

Tools Used

Wireframes

I made the layout of the current scoreboard so that I could work better with each element.

  • Personal scores and ranking your teammates in a table (top to bottom) based on your score don't help much with team collaboration.

Current Scoreboard

New scoreboard

This is the new proposal for the scoreboard. The main objective is to be clear about who your teammates are and which characters are on the enemy team. And do not focus on scores, kills or other distractions that generate greater cognitive load and are used as an excuse to create toxicity among team members.

UI Mockup

With this proposal it is easier to understand the relevant information:

  • What characters are on your team?

  • Who is still alive and who is not?

  • Who on the opposing team has been discovered and who is still alive and who is not?

The entire design was made from scratch by me, based on the current style of Rainbow Six Siege, except for the images of the characters (I also made the backgrounds from scratch).

Outcomes & Post-Mortem

A small project that I really enjoyed as it is one of my favorite games. Here are some final comments:

  • A design focused on one thing: teamwork.

  • It helped me practice my design skills following an already established visual line

  • I want to explore this idea much more and validate it with real users to obtain feedback and make iterations that improve the gaming experience.

  • I think that I can place all the other data such as score, kills, assists at the end of the game, in your summary.
